Intro

About me
Welcome to my website! As a brief introduction, I am in my mid-20's residing in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am currently employed by the University of Calgary as a developer for various web-based applications provided to staff, students, and faculty. I don't get to travel that often, so a lot of stuff you see here will be local. :)

A bit of history
In all honesty, I came into this almost completely unintentionally.

Another hobby of mine is amateur astronomy and astrophotography. I started in December 2003 with my first telescope and the first day I received it, it also happened to be a full moon. Wanting to share my excitement with others, I attempted to take pictures of it with my Nikon Coolpix 880. While this camera did serve its purpose at the time, I quickly found that it left much to be desired. I eventually upgraded to a Canon Digital Rebel in August 2004 (after much consideration and deliberation; who the heck spends this kinda money on cameras anyways?!), with very little intentions on using it for terrestrial photography. My experience with the Coolpix did teach me a little about photography but I still had a lot to learn to make use of the Rebel. Learning how to use a camera in the dark is not the best approach, so I tried to become familiar with the dSLR by shooting terristrial objects in the daylight.

And that is how I got hooked.

Not a photographer

I don't consider myself so much a photographer by any means as I am an "aspiring hobbiest with a camera". I've just started and there's still so much I have to learn.

This is just a hobby of mine I do in my spare time. I like to try different things with the camera, (which might explain why some of my photos can be so inconsistant sometimes!). Some turn out good, some turn out not so good. But I'm learning. And having fun while doing it.

I put this site together pretty much to show some of the photos I've taken and get some feedback. While I have received many positive compliments on photos I've taken, I actually find very few of them have impressed me (I'm definitely my own worst critic). Perhaps with a bit of constructive criticism, I may someday reach that level of expertise I'd be happy with.

So stick around. You might see something cool, something interesting, and occassionally, something disgusting. Maybe with any luck you'll like what you'll see.

I will try my best to get a new photo added to the photoblog every day or every other day.

About this site

When I originally began a photoblog, the software I used was PhotoBlogger. I had some difficulty finding some photoblog software that I found appealing and PhotoBlogger was the closest one that suited my needs. Eventually I wrote my own photoblog software, which I will distribute freely once I have performed some adequete testing with it.

The gallery software is software that I pretty much wrote. I have used some of the code provided by PhotoBlogger that I liked, but for the most part I spent a weekend working on it. Once it is in a state I am happy with, I will make it available for free to download.

All photos on this page are taken by me. Please do not use them without my permission. I have no problem letting people use my images, just so long as I know where it's going and what it is used for.
